Villa Frua

Refined, aristocratic,above the Borromean Islands

Villa Frua sits at Stresa, on the western shore of Lago Maggiore, behind terraced gardens that descend in layers to the water’s edge. It is a private estate of extraordinary refinement, a place that reveals itself slowly until you reach the lakefront and the full scale of the Borromean Islands appears across the water.

We documented the first day of a two-day Indian wedding here: a civil ceremony in the formal gardens, calm and precise, in extraordinary light. The following day the celebration continued at Castello Dal Pozzo.

I

The estate

Pale stone facades, tall shuttered windows and interiors of genuine historic character: restrained, aristocratic architecture set in grounds that extend across multiple levels.

II

The gardens

Formal gardens, ancient trees and terraces give way to something more beautiful than the last, until you reach the lakefront.

III

The light

The morning light in the upper gardens is not the afternoon light on the lakefront terrace, which faces west, and neither is the golden hour over the water. A full day at Villa Frua moves through many different atmospheres.

Plan your weekend

Combine the villawith another venue

Villa Frua works well as the first day of a two-venue weekend, for example with Castello Dal Pozzo for a grander atmosphere, or with Grand Hotel Bristol on the same lake.

Questions

Good to know

Have you photographed weddings at Villa Frua?

Yes, as the first day of a two-venue Indian wedding, with the celebration continuing the next day at Castello Dal Pozzo. We know the estate and its light and are happy to talk through the venue on a first call.

Do you recommend combining it with another venue?

Yes, particularly Castello Dal Pozzo for a two-day structure, or Grand Hotel Bristol for a different atmosphere on the same lake.

Do you offer both photography and film?

Yes. Photography, film and content are created by one team under one creative direction, so everything feels consistent.

Do you cover multi-day celebrations?

Absolutely. Many of our couples celebrate over a full weekend, from the welcome dinner to the farewell brunch.

How far in advance should we book?

Because we take on only about 15 weddings a year, we recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date and venue in mind. Many couples book 12 to 18 months ahead.
